Laughlin Memorial Chapel

Laughlin Memorial Chapel (LMC) has been in existence for approximately 144 years. We serve an urban area that has more than 530 at-risk children. LMC serves children in the East Wheeling, North Wheeling, South Wheeling, Wheeling Heights, North Park, and Wheeling Island neighborhoods. It currently offers five programs including: Afterschool Jam, Summer Jam, Get Ahead Program (GAP), Teen Jam, and Young Lions Club. Nutritious meals and snacks are central to LMC’s mission and are served as part of daily programming. Children receive homework support and academic instruction. Fine arts exposure, physical fitness activities, and other activities are part of the afterschool agenda each week.

Mentors and volunteers serve the children, allowing them to develop caring relationships with interested adults. All programs and services are provided free-of-charge. LMC benefits kids in kindergarten through eighth grade. They are served Monday through Thursday. The majority of the children served (more than 96%) qualify for free- or reduced-lunch. Teen Jam is a newest addition to their programs. It aims to provide services for at-risk teens.
